How Can You Help ~ Under construction

“Heart of Dixie Equine Rescue, Inc.” is run completely by volunteers.  Caring and Feeding of our equines is very rewarding.  Many of our rescues come to us with medical, training and condition issues that need to be addressed before these equines can be placed in a forever home.  The work is very rewarding.  Watching a horse blossom from a skeleton that does not even want to move to a vibrant, healthy animal running around the pasture is an amazing site.  This work takes a lot of time and a lot of money.  If everyone can give just a little we can do SO much good for so many equines in need.

So, how can you help?

Do you have horse experience or would you like to learn how to care for horses?  We need volunteers to work with our equines.  Jobs that need doing go from our twice daily feeding and watering, caring and grooming of the equines, facility maintenance and training of the horses.  All volunteers will be evaluated for their current knowledge and assigned tasks commensurate with their skills.  Volunteer Orientations will be provided by qualified individuals on a monthly basis to help increase our volunteer’s equine knowledge.

Would you like to foster a rescue equine?  Do you have the facilities to keep and care for an equine until he/she can be placed in a forever home?  You will need to provide good fencing with adequate shelter along with fresh water and good quality feed and hay.  The equines will need to be cared for on a daily basis. (Feeding and Grooming)  Farrier and Veterinary service fees can optionally be reimbursed by the rescue.  For more information on our foster program, please contact the rescue.

Do you have construction, plumbing, electrical, clerical, legal, accounting or marketing skills?   Our facility is under constant construction.  We need help with clearing land, putting up fence, building shelters and installation of our electrical and plumbing requirements.  We need people to help with all of the clerical, legal, accounting and fundraising that is involved in running a rescue.  If you have any of these skills and can donate some time, the horses need you!

Do you have any items that you can donate to aid the rescue?  We need EVERYTHING equine related.  Feed and horse quality hay or tops on the list.  We are always in need of tack, grooming supplies and fencing/facility building materials.  She the wish list tab for our complete list of wanted items!

Can you make a monetary donation?  Our equines need Veterinary and Farrier care on a regular basis.  They must be vaccinated twice a year.  They have to have parasite and sand colic preventative medication on a regular schedule.  One horse typically goes through 4 bags of feed and a full round bale of hay per month.  This is for a healthy horse in good condition.  A horse that is ill and/or underweight can cost significantly more to care for.  Many of our horses come to us in poor condition.
